Informed Concent Policy
1. Requirement for Consent
For all manuscripts submitted to Biomed Thought (BT) that include details, images, or videos relating to an identifiable individual, written informed consent for publication must be obtained from the person (or their parent/legal guardian in the case of minors, or next of kin if the participant is deceased).
2. Definition of "Identifiable"
A patient or participant is considered identifiable if the manuscript includes:
-
Case descriptions that allow for identification.
-
Photographs, videos, or radiological images of a person.
-
Genetic pedigree charts with unique identifiers.
-
Any other personal or clinical detail that could lead to identification.
3. Content of the Consent
Participants should be informed that:
-
Their information will be published in an online open-access journal, available to anyone with an internet connection.
-
The article will be indexed in databases.
-
While anonymity will be maintained, complete confidentiality cannot be guaranteed.
4. Statement in the Manuscript
A statement confirming consent must be included in the manuscript, typically in the Methods section or at the end before the References.
-
Example: "Written informed consent was obtained from the patient(s) for the publication of this case report and any accompanying images."
-
Example (for minors): "Written informed consent was obtained from the legal guardians of the minor for publication of this study."
5. Requirement for Anonymized Data
If data has been fully anonymized such that individuals cannot be identified, a specific statement indicating the anonymization process may be sufficient. However, if any risk of identification exists, explicit consent is required.
6. Editorial Rights
The Editor reserves the right to request copies of the consent form or documentation at any time during the review or publication process. These forms will be treated confidentially.
